Local Information
Oban
A bustling town known as the "Gateway to the Isles". The harbour is one of the centres on the West
Coast for ferries to the islands of Mull, Iona, Colonsay and Tiree. A short walk up the hill to
McCaigs Tower, the Roman Colosseum like structure, is a must where you can drink in the view.
Corryvreckan
Take a boat trip out to witness these whirlpools. The innumerable reefs
and troughs in the Sound create terrific tidal flows, up-thrusts and eddies until finally in the
Gulf there is a huge hole 219 metres deep and a pinnacle of rock which rises to 29 metres below
the surface which all contribute to the legendary maelstrom.
Kilmartin Glen
The museum is the right place to start a visit to Kilmartin Glen. There
are in excess of 300 ancient monuments within six miles of the village of which up to 150 are

Scotland between AD500-900.
Crinan
The nine miles of canal between Ardrishaig and Crinan has 15 locks which
meander through truly magnificient scenery steeped in history. There are miles of forest
walks and cycle tracks for the more energetic.
Inverary
A day trip by car from Craobh will take you to the historic town of
Inverary on the shores of Loch Fyne. The first house was completed in 1793 and by 1820
